The valley is rich with wildlife.   Red deer graze on the opposite bank and the Kingfisher and Dippers are frequently seen.   Buzzards and Ravens soar above the valley on most days.

In 2008 there were several sightings of the otter and stoat.  House martins, swifts and swallows nest in the eaves and outside buildings.

Grey and pied wagtails, blackcap, willow warbler, pied flycatcher, marsh/willow tit, chiffchaff and jays join the garden birds every year.

Riding on Exmoor - Outovercott Stables particularly recommended, and for golfers, a round at Saunton Golf Club, or The Royal North Devon, or less challenging courses can be arranged.

Arlington Court, National Trust, is just over the hill and well worth a visit.   Home of the Chichester family and housing the finest collection of carriages in the country.

The RHS Rosemoor garden, Marwood Hill Gardens with their spectacular camellias, Watersmeet and Hartland Abbey & Gardens are well worth a visit.

Also noteworthy are Lorna Doone Country, Tarr Steps, Valley of the Rocks, Knighthayes and Dartington Glass.

There are many charming village pubs and restaurants to explore.  The Fox & Goose at Parracombe and The Poltimore Inn at Yarde Down are particularly recommended.
